To detonate one secondary explosive, you need a primary explosive within a detonation system.
The workflow for a detonator is:
- Arm the detonator, wait for command
- Send the command,
- Circuitry (charge switch) power the burning “fuse”
- Ignite the primary explosive
- KABUUUMMM!
Core components:
Microcontroller
- Process the command and release the signal.
- Yes, you can use the arduino
Charge Switch
- Relay (For high voltage or high current power supply).
- Transistor/Mosfet (For low voltage and low current).
"Fuse"
- Ignite the primary explosive
- Nichrome (NiCr) wire (26AWG)
- The eletric current will heat the wire, the dissipated energy (heat) will ignite the primary explosive
Charge PSU
- Provides energy to the “Fuse Burn” step.
- Should be chosen based on the fuse wire material (resistance influence)
- For Nichrome Wire, an 18V NiCd battery will work.
Main PSU
- Power Supply for the Microcontroller and peripherals.
- For arduino, 9v battery.
